About Gypsy Kids

Gypsy Kids is breathing a colourful, directional air into the world of baby clothing, with fashionable essentials for year-round wear. Using transeasonal global prints, Gypsy Kids is inspired by a kaleidoscope of cultural influences from Japanese Kimonos and Indian Kaftans to Chinese Cheongsam and a traditional British flair, bringing a new kind of global fashion to tiny tots.

All of the clothing is made from 100% natural cotton and each item was carefully designed for comfort, ease-of-use, ease-of-care and easy-wear. The range for boys and girls is geared towards mixing and matching, with each printed fabric design developed here in Australia, and exclusive to Gypsy Kids.

Gypsy Kids has added to its printed cotton range with the most delicious woven and hand-knitted jumpers, cardigans, beanies and vests in cotton-blend, mohair-blend and lambswool. Pure cotton long-sleeve T's, Polo shirts and sports hoodies have expanded the offer, creating a complete look that adds warmth and comfort. This fully co-ordinated collection is all designed here in Australia.

To complete the story, Gypsy Kids has developed a simple and unique range of bed linen and decorator items. The 100% natural cotton collection features fitted sheets, flat sheet sets and quilt cover sets, complemented with scatter cushions, European pillow cases and decorator flags – creating a clean, smart and stylish look for the Nursery. Woven blankets and soft microfibre throws will be introduced in early 2010. Unique cable-knit cotton-blend blankets with a printed fabric reverse, and a hand-knitted mohair-blend blanket round off this beautiful decorator range.

Gypsy Kids has been developed by husband and wife team, Melanie and Murray Quirk, inspired by the newest addition to the Quirk family, Zac Henry. Both Melanie and Murray have a background in textile design, manufacturing, importing, sales, wholesaling and retailing, and Melanie has also been involved in fashion and publishing for a number of years. After the birth of Zac in early 2008, Melanie discovered a collection of baby clothing ideas, print designs and fabrics that she had collected on her travels around the world during her career and her overseas holidays.

A true Gypsy at heart, Melanie has travelled extensively to romantic destinations, holiday hotspots and remote getaways, always on the look out for design inspiration. She found much of this inspiration during working trips to England, Italy, France, Denmark, Sweden, Spain and the USA, as well as during her Sub-continent and Asian adventures to India, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan and China.

All of these influences came together to create the Gypsy Kids range of baby clothing - mixing and matching cultural styles, ethnic colours and traditional techniques. This global vision is the essence of the Gypsy, a member of a wandering race and a person with a nomadic lifestyle - whatever their race or origin. Through clothing, Gypsy Kids wants children to understand the diversity and richness of cultures from around the world and to see that we can all enjoy eachother’s unique and individual sense of style, culture, colour and tradition.
